Attractions Near Escalante, Utah

Escalante and the surrounding areas have some of the most unusual, and interesting attractions in the United States. The premier attraction is, of course, Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, but there is so much more to experience in the area. We've listed a few of our favorite places to go and things to do below. Feel free to contact us for suggestions or recommedations. We'd love to hear from you.

Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument

Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, just a few minutes from Escalante Cabins & RV Park, is a vast wilderness, filled with colorful sandstone, soaring cliffs, and tight slot canyons. The region is made up of three main sections.

The Grand Staircase section contains some of the most spectacular slot canyons in the world. The Escalante Canyons section has waterfalls, majestic arches, and narrow canyons.
The Kaiparowits Plateau contains a variety of unique rock formations and fossils.

Jeep Rentals

Jeeps can be rented right here in town or bring your own Jeep or ATV. You can ride on any Escalante city street to access Boulder Mountain and you can tour down Hole-in-the-Rock Road to get out into the desert.

Lower Calf Creek Falls

Lower Calf Creek Falls is easily accessible off of Highway 12 between Escalante and Boulder. This spring fed falls runs year around and provides a good picture of how a water source in the desert is an oasis to the surrounding land. Take a quick dip in its cold-water pool below the falls before hiking the three miles back to your car. Along the way watch out for ancient Native American ruins, Pictographs, and brook trout in the stream that the trail follows.

Wide Hollow Reservoir is a great place to do some SUP. Try some fishing or just play around too!

Peek-A-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyon

Peek-A-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyon should be on everyone’s must do list. This is a non-rope slot canyon but does require some “sport” rock climbing skills. If in question about your personal physical abilities please ask a park staff or a Ranger across the street at the Interagency Visitor Center.
